Conrad Martinez 6'0 2023 Spanish PG Has Committed To Arizona!

According to Eurobasket, Martinez averaged 16.6 points while shooting 35.7% from 3-point range in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament. Over Spain's EBA season, he averaged 17.0 points over 22 games.

Conrad Martinez played for the Penya U18 team and was a big part of the Spanish Championship run. Martinez helped his team secure the title after beating Real Madrid and qualify for the ANGT finals.

In December 2020, ID Prospects listed him as a nominee for "best young player."

The addition of Martinez would bring Arizona's roster to 12 scholarship players for next season.

Nice to see another Guard. Not seeing how this makes sense for us overall though. These international recruits should not be paid to come here and develop on the bench. That's not REAL Arizona Basketball. Tommy isn't on to anything with this strategy. Miller was the one who came up with the International Semi-Pro "ringer" team strategy out of necessity only.

I will reiterate my position that Arizona is not a Late 2nd Round Euro Stash School. We are also not a Mid Major.

This is exactly what we need. Martinez seems raw but he has versatility and finds multiple ways to score (unlike our last point guard, who could only settle for threes).

We need a young guard to learn under Boswell and eventually take over, similar to PJC.

Great addition!

I can't understand this infatuation with "learning" and "developing". Now you are saying Boswell needs an understudy? Boswell was 17 years old last year. I'm guessing he is 18 by now. He can actually purchase a Bic Lighter unless that law has changed to 21. I don't know. But he needs an understudy who has far more experience in the world than him? I don't get that. Either CMart can play or he can't. The system is not complicated. Can you run? Or do you have cardio? Can you toss a moonball lob to the deep post? Can you hit a wide open bucket? Those are essentially the prerequisites. In 2 Years no one has been required to be able to take their man off the dribble or create their own shot to succeed in this offense. Mathurin did it because he is a future 1st team all-NBA caliber offensive player.

Defensively, can you stay in front of your man? Can you press the 1 to 3 times per game that Tommy *May* call for it (not a given). Can you stay on the court without fouling needlessly? That's the system I see.

To what end.

I love him for the scout squad alone. We play against shifty guards, this guy can help us simulate different looks.

That said, he's worthy of the 10th - 13th spot on his own merits.

I think the Euro guys have a lot to be desired sometimes, but they add value to the team dynamics in their own right. I like him over Krivas on need and video highlights alone.

Give me this kid over a lot of deep bench depth that exist at high D1 schools everywhere.

I have a lot of trust that Tommy is building something for the future while being competitive now - let the man work.

Boswell learned quickly as a freshman and it's obvious that he will be our primary ball handler. Age isn't relevant; we saw how Arizona basketball operates when they only have one PG on the team. We've seen guys like Budinger, Solo Hill and Pelle take the ball up the court when we lacked depth and it isn't pretty. Glad we have another option.

The last building block is in place to make it all the way to the Elite 8!

Okay, but my comment has a lot more to do with "Is CMART an option to play" or is he "the scout team kid" as Lefty said.
