Arizona Vs Canisus 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 11/4/24 8pm ESPN+

The Arizona Wildcats (27-9 last season) will go up against the Canisius Golden Griffins (14-18 last year) at McKale Center on Monday night.

The Canisius Golden Griffins faced Quinnipiac and took a loss by a final of 76-52 in their last game. Concerning fouls, the Griffins left the arena with 12 while Quinnipiac finished the game with 8 fouls. They also knocked down 6 of their 14 attempts from distance. Quinnipiac shot 80.0% at the free throw line by burying 8 of 10 shots. On top of that, Quinnipiac pulled down 36 rebounds (12 offensive, 24 defensive), but wasn't able to put a block in the stat sheet. Quinnipiac earned 18 assists and had 6 steals for this game. The 10th ranked Arizona men's basketball team gained a 113-64 win over the Point Loma Sea Lions in their final exhibition before the start of the 2024-2025 season. This is the second triple digit point surge in as many games for the Cats.

Arizona built a 24-point lead with just under seven minutes left in the first half before the Sea Lions cut it back down to 10 points just three minutes later. However, Arizona responded and bumped the lead back up to 59-45 heading into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, Arizona outscored Point Loma by a 54-19 margin and held the Sea Lions scoreless for the first four minutes of the half. The Wildcats also finished the game on a 20-1 run over the final eight minutes.

Trey Townsend led the Cats with 18 points. Townsend shot 6 of 9 from the field in addition to his 10 rebounds and three assists. Jaden Bradley was next with 16 points to go with five assists and zero turnovers in 22 minutes. KJ Lewis was a menace on the defensive end, finishing with three steals to go with 15 points and five rebounds.

Freshman Carter Bryant tallied 13 points off the bench while Tobe Awaka and Henri Veesaar added 12 points apiece.

As a team, Arizona shot 57.7% from the floor and held Point Loma to 31.0%. The Cats also finished with a 49-27 edge in rebounding and connected on 10 of 25 attempts from the 3-point line.

The Arizona Wildcats ended last season with a loss by a score of 77-72 when they played Clemson in the tournament. Concerning how they attacked the glass, Arizona permitted Clemson to grab 33 in all (6 offensive). They went 32.0% from three-point range by going 8 out of 25 and finished the contest at 11 of 16 from the free throw line (68.8%). The Wildcats permitted Clemson to knock down 29 out of their 59 attempts from the floor which gave them a rate of 49.2% in this matchup. Jaden Bradley ended up being a major contributor for the Wildcats in this game. He buried 4 out of 9 for this contest for a field goal rate of 44.4%, and tallied 4 rebounds. He earned 18 points in his 25 mins on the court and tallied 3 assists in the matchup.

Great overall performance.  Balanced attack from a 10-deep roster, minimal turnovers, quick start to the game (which was a struggle over the past two seasons), tough defense and consistent shooting (besides Dell'Orzo).  Let's keep everybody healthy, as the schedule slowly strengthens!
