Arizona Vs West Virginia 🏀 Game Preview/Discussion Thread 11/29/24 1pm ESPN2

The 3rd place game in the Battle 4 Atlantis features a matchup between the West Virginia Mountaineers (4-2) and the #24 Arizona Wildcats (3-3). West Virginia lost in the second round to Louisville 79-70, going down as 3.5-point underdogs. Arizona lost against Oklahoma to get here, losing 82-77 as 6.5-point favorites. Tipoff is scheduled at 1pm from the Imperial Arena in the Bahamas and can be found on ESPN2.

West Virginia Runs Out Of Gas
The West Virginia Mountaineers opened this tournament with a shocking win over the #3 in the nation Gonzaga Bulldogs. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, they lost their momentum in day two, and took a loss to Louisville. They held a small four point lead at halftime, and they were locked at the end of regulation, but Louisville dominated the overtime period and won by nine. West Virginia was led by Javon Small with 27 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the loss.

Javon Small has been on fire in the Bahamas. He is a 6'3 senior guard who scored 31 points in the first game against Gonzaga, then followed it up with 26 against Louisville. He hit four threes in each game, and also handles the majority of the ballhandling duties and dished out seven assists against the Cardinals. Tucker DeVries is their next best scorer, he is a 6'7 guard with size who can shoot from the outside. DeVries had 16 against Gonzaga, but only eight in the second game on Thursday. Amani Hansberry had another strong game inside, he is a 6'8 sophomore forward who had 19 points in each of the first two games of this tournament.

Wildcats Take Third Loss
The Arizona Wildcats will not be in the Top 25 for long if they keep losing games. They have just a 3-3 record, as they have fallen against Wisconsin, Duke and now Oklahoma. They are not bad losses, but Arizona expected to have a winning record at this point of the season. They blew out Davidson in the first game, but trailed for the majority of the Oklahoma game before ultimately losing by five. In the loss against Oklahoma, they were led by Caleb Love with 17 points and five rebounds in the game.

Caleb Love is a veteran for the team, the former Tar Heel was an All-American last season, and has been playing well in the Bahamas. Love had 20 points in the opening win against Davidson, and followed it up with 17 in the loss against the Sooners, and has grabbed five boards in each game. Jaden Bradley added 16 points on Thursday, he is a 6'3 guard who was leading the team in scoring coming into the tournament. Motiejus Krivas came off the bench to score 14 points on Thursday, he is a 7'2, 260 pound center in his second season with the team.

ARIZONA is favored at 6.5 points and the Over/Under is 153.5 points

Arizona basketball has it's first losing record since the 2009-10 season.

Wow never thought arizona  basketball  would  have a losing record  7 games in, they should have beat both oklahoma an west virginia, an instead

We got beat by both in close games.

So many issues so far, rebounding  is a major issue arizona  continues to give alot of offensive rebounds, arizona bigs, have been terrible rebounding the ball,awaka has been the only good rebounder, krivas, townsend really need to rebound better an block out  other team,  an turnovers are costly, 14 of them against west virginia  but 24 points off of them for west virginia, in a close game.

This may be tommeys hardest coaching job yet, alot of things must change for them to be a tournament team.

Awaka rebounds the ball really well
Maybe Lloyd  should play him 30 minutes  a game, offensively  he is limited, krivas probably  offers more offensively, but is not rebounding  well enough, an arizona  is getting  killed on the glass, townsend  is scoring  but not rebounding, well enough.
