Quote from: TucsonTruckStop on November 25, 2024, 08:54:54 PMTrue, but their team is going to the 12 team playoff.

No it isn't.

All they have to do is beat Arizona and either BYU (which they've beaten) or Iowa St in the conference title game. Not a difficult task. The conference champ is automatically in the CFP field.

1. You say this like it is an easy thing overall beyond just your opinion
2. It is hard to beat a team twice, especially without a home field advantage
3. Iowa St presents a litany of challenges for them if that is the matchup
4. BYU would have almost the entire stadium packed if they are in the title game

Plenty of things going against them beyond an unlikely potential stumble in Tucson.
ASU is in the field after tonight's CFP rankings.

Yes, that is strictly because they are leading the Big12 Conference and because we reside in... THE TWILIGHT ZONE. Everything I said holds true. A lot of work left to be done.

Avery was hurt immediately after t he Arizona game. He hit a bit of a lull but looked like his old self on the ground last weekend. They're dangerous, which may unfortunately screw up ISU'a chances.

Well, you won't catch me rooting for ASU to go to the CFP let alone in Year 1 of this Big12 move. Lol

KansasCityCats

Absolutely not. I like K-State but will be rooting hard for ISU.

Like I said. This was an easy call. Not only are they 1 of 12, they are a 4 seed and get a bye.

KansasCityCats

Yeah, Iowa state decided that they didn't feel like stopping the run yesterday. Crappy effort for a team that looked better throughout the regular season.

I don't think that was a decision.

Opp Rush Play %   56.13%
Opp Yards/Rush   5.2
Opp Rushes/Game   34.3
Opp Rush Yards/Game 179.6

They were built to be steamrolled by a running team like ASU with Toby Gerhart Jr / Honey Scattabooboo

Arizona State did what they needed to do when it mattered most. They knocked off BYU. That was the pivotal moment for them. I don't think they are a real 4 seed. The NCAA didn't want to show bias in Year 1 of this experiment. I understand overall.

SMU doesn't have anything special to what they do that Army doesn't. Either could have been put in, but they chose to make it look more balanced overall with the "Power 4" and prove that "Win+In" is a massive threat for this format. I think it is the right call in that regard even if I don't agree.

Penn State has Zero excuse. Franklin needs to be fired if he can't get to the Final Four. Ohio State actually got hosed by the draw big time for blowing it to Michigan. Someone was going to have to run the gauntlet overall. So maybe we get a rematch of Ohio St and Oregon.

I think the overall Truth will show itself in the Finals regardless. Whether it is Georgia vs Texas Part 3 to finalize their trilogy or Oregon proving themselves. This new format will make whoever wins it all have to prove it and I don't think people need to be crying about their team not making the dance anymore. If you are "12/13" ranked and miss out, then you just weren't good enough all season flat out. As long as there are conferences, there should be consequences. Ole Miss/Alabama would probably destroy SMU, but they don't automatically deserve to be able to. They had a full slate of big games, made tons of money, and all those SEC schools schedule a powder puff late in their slate.

MAYBE going forward we will see more of the good teams schedule a top tier OOC game (or an extra one), knowing that you can get into this 12 team dance with 1-3 losses depending on circumstances that are well within your own control. That should make better CFB overall.

KansasCityCats

It'll be interested to see how the Quarterfinals play out.  I'd love to see a rematch of tOSU and Oregon because that first game was epic but realistically, I want the Ducks to steamroll somebody so they can embarrass assu, if they somehow sneak past Texas.  I can't see Ewers struggling against them, but I also didn't think that ISU would crap the bed, so fingers crossed that SOMEBODY puts Dillyham in his place.  He reminds me of the annoying kids in high school that couldn't make the football team, but still tries to follow the team to parties on Friday night.

"Krusty the Clown, Clown College aka ASU"

That will go down in infamy.

KansasCityCats

I'm still laughing. Well done, Disney.
