I agree with the fact we are stuck with this and also Lol don't watch those twitter posts about Love and hustle.. He really had the hustle last season. I don't know what is happening this season with him. Maybe he is jaded now or was jaded by the feedback he got last year and thinks "what more could I have realistically done?".

Quote from: Naterade on November 24, 2024, 10:30:45 PMI think Loves issues so far is trying to play within the offense as opposed to the perception last year of jacking up too many shots off the dribble. All his three point shots were good looks within the flow and they just didn't drop. The dude has played big in the biggest games and was an all American.  Just my opinion. I think he will find a rhythm here in the Bahamas. On another note- they keep saying Krivas is coming off an injury, but he looks fine to me, still can't make a quick post move and can't hang onto the ball. Not sure why he's looked at as an NBA player. I like the energy and speed Vesar has shown, he's not afraid to dribble and looks way more mobile than I thought he was. I'd like to see Tommy give him some time to get a couple shots up and shake off some jitters, I think he could have a breakout game if given the chance.

I agree with this overall. I am not really speaking to shot selection. I am just hoping to see more of a Team Game because we do have other options and it is up to Tommy to explore them. Prior seasons we were too shallow at times and only had 1 or 2 ways to play. This year we may only have 8 guys who can realistically play when it matters (sorry Del'Orso), but it will be the Rotations and finding the right balance of shot taking.

Someone should send Tommy Lloyd this Kans-ass vs Dook game and force him to watch it on repeat like Clockwork Orange with the Eye Drops. No Blinking Allowed.

The refs, clearly against Kansas after Bill Self thoroughly dominated Scheyer early with a masterclass in how to coach at the highest level, threw HUNTER DICKENSON out of the game with over 10min to go.

Kans-ASS still won the game in Easy fashion. Never lost control. Maybe didn't even lose the lead or never down by more than a point or bucket at worst.

Flagg got 9 shots tonight and only 4 FT attempts.

Kneuppel went 0-8 from 3, but almost banked home the game tying bucket. However, Duke had their chances to "win it" before then. Failed just like they failed to Kentucky. Flagg taking about 45-50 shots from the field over the last 2 games... recipe for disaster.

Look at the game. LEARN how to defend ANY Top Level player in a way that Limits their ability to score and take over a game. Make someone else beat you and live with the results.

Tommy.... LEARN SOMETHING.

I hate Bill Self. He is the ultimate Sean Miller though. He has the true Coaching Moxie and will keep his team in it no matter what.

This is how to COACH a game when everything is supposed to be going against you.

KansasCityCats

Flagg shot at a much higher rate against KU than he did Arizona.  He had the SAME amount of TO's AND Assists.

The difference is that guys like Kneuppel and Gillis crapped the bed and combined for 1 of 13 from long distance.  They couldn't hit an open shot to save their lives.

Against Arizona, Kneuppel wasn't great...but he at least hit half of his 3's.

The coaching was there in Vegas.  The gameplan worked.  Unfortunately, our players couldn't hit shots.  26% from deep doesn't get the job done.  Was the OU loss on the staff?  Probably.  But not Dook.

I think the game plan was horrible against Duke. I think Kansas had a much better game plan and maybe they needed to see how we played them to formulate it. Who knows. Bill Self is a much better Head Coach than Tommy overall regardless.

Flagg.. Higher rate? It's not about %'s.

I am literally much more fine with Flagg going 9 for 9 against us for 18 points if it means his supporting cast has to have a bad game. Letting Flagg take 22 shots is not a smart way to play him. It literally helps his teammates as they know they can lean on him at all times. Even if they struggle, they know that Flagg is open for business. Kansas made it clear that the Flagg shop was closed and if you want to win, you better step up. K*2 the Nipple had a bad game. It is more likely that the supporting cast has bad games than the star player so putting pressure on them to perform is a pretty good plan from my perspective and it worked.

I can admit that our piss poor shooting from 3 is a reason why we are failing, but Tommy is refusing many things from literally just getting 3pt shooters on the floor to actually setting up real plays to get 3pt shooters the ball for catch+shoot. He literally runs NBA style offense right? So why is it that event he worst NBA teams can get open 3pt shots? Is the excuse that no one plays defense in the NBA? Or is the excuse that we aren't running any actions to get the ball kicked out to the open shooter... We are starting to phase into this gaslight environment of "what is MORE true"....

So what is More true and what magnitude of that truth is most impactful?

Then, when we answer that question - What is the most effective solution and the path of least resistance?

I think Tommy needs to start the process of figuring these things out.

Bill Self is the best active coach in college basketball. There's obviously an extreme bias if you're attempting to hold a 3rd year head coach to his standards.

I think there is an extreme bias that you believe a 20 Year Assistant is equal to something more and better than a 3rd year Head Coach from every stance you've taken on Tommy - which for me is a Year to Year thing overall, but for you seems like Tommy is already a 1000 Win Mount Rushmore of all time NCAA Head Coach because of what he did with the players that were here when he arrived.

So the truth is likely somewhere in the middle.

KansasCityCats

Nope.  "Somewhere in the middle" is perfect for a 4th year head coach.  He shouldn't be compared to the Mount Rushmore of coaches until he had time to prove himself.  Bill Self inherited a killer team from Roy Williams and the alumni were ready to fire him for not making the Final Four (until he broke through in Year 5).  KU still didn't make the Final Four more than every 4-6 seasons because the landscape of college basketball doesn't allow for that type of consistency.  Lloyd isn't going to crush every opponent every week...but he'll always keep us competitive (and will eventually take us back to the FF for the first time since 2001).
